Rain Days

My son and I don’t spend a lot of time outside. I readily admit that. Lately it’s been so warm that I just haven’t been up for it.

Warm summer rains, however, will lure us out of the house every time.

I’ve been working on trying to get our son more used to sprinklers, rain, water that comes from above in general. It’s not really his thing. So, you can imagine he was not exactly a fan of the original downpour.

20140722_133515Once the rain stopped, and the sun came out, we got a little out of our shell a little bit. My son loves a good rain puddle.

Ya know, I think every kid loves a good rain puddle. The neighbor kid from the apartment above us came and played, too. I had a nice chat with our neighbor, which was cool. The boys are about a year apart (in our son’s favor.)

20140722_134720(0)I think the greatest progress from the rain day, was that our son stayed close by. It may be time to let go of my nerves mommy strings a little and take him outside more. We may, finally, be at the point that he might just stick around.

The other great thing was he kinda played with the neighbor kid. He copied the other child, and learned the joy of running full speed through the puddle. There was some social interaction, and that was good.

We also learned, or at least said, the words rain and hail. Well, we also said “oh, hail” which sounded so cute. I wish I would have gotten it on video. I’ll have to remember that for the next storm.

We spent time away from the Xbox and in nature. It was one of those moments childhood was made for.
